Breaking: Derek Mears Is Swamp Thing in New DC Series

We know that DC’s new streaming service has ordered an all-new “Swamp Thing” series via James Wan and screenwriter Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, IT), but today we have word on just who will be playing the creature itself.

Looks like good old Jason Voorhees, aka Derek Mears, will be portraying the Swamp Thing, but – and this is important to note – Slash Report says he will NOT be playing Dr. Alec Holland. That role has not yet been cast. The pilot episode is set to be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).

NOTE: DC has not yet confirmed this casting.

“Swamp Thing” is set to start filming in the fall in Wilmington, NC, and will make its debut on the upcoming DC Universe streaming service in 2019.

The series follows U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) researcher Abby Arcane as she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she bonds with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her.

But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets — both horrifying and wondrous, that could potentially bring the love of her life back to her.
