Rest in Peace: John Carl Buechler

It’s never easy to say goodbye to a legend. FX artist and filmmaker John Carl Buechler was that and more. To list all of the fond memories this absolute maestro gave to the horror genre as a whole would be impossible. It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to him as John has passed on at the all too young age of just 66 due to stage 4 prostate cancer.

Buechler created eye-popping FX work for many films over the years including Hatchet, Bride of Re-Animator, Halloween 4, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Prison, Ghoulies, Mausoleum, From Beyond, TerrorVision, The Phantom of the Opera, and dozens of other projects. He stepped behind the director’s chair and did the effects for the classic films Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Cellar Dweller, Troll, and many more.

Beyond that he was also one of the nicest and coolest guys you could ever hope to meet. Someone who genuinely cared about the fans, the genre, and making REALLY cool monsters! To say that he’ll be missed is a true understatement.

Rest easy, friend. Your legacy will live on in all of our imaginations for many generations to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you… godspeed.
